Mária Žuffová is a Research Fellow at the European University Institute. Her research connects political science and communication studies. She focuses on three areas: the relationship between the state, political actors, and the media; gender representation; and the politics of transparency reforms. Her work has been published in the European Political Science Review and the International Journal of Press/Politics, among other outlets.

Mária holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. During her time with the Institute for Democracy, she will analyse the results of the survey investigating hostility and violence against journalists across seven European democracies.
