We are deeply grateful to Robert Vancel, our founding Executive Co‑Director, for his extraordinary leadership and dedication over the years. Today, he is stepping down from his executive role as he prepares to begin an exciting new chapter in Tokyo, Japan.
As one of the Institute’s founders and inaugural Executive Co‑Directors, Robert played a key role in building the organization from the ground up, shaping its mission, launching its first programs, and laying the foundations for the work we do today across Slovakia and Central Europe. His vision and dedication have been instrumental in establishing IfD as a respected institution supporting democratic values across the region.
While he will no longer serve as Executive Co‑Director, Robert will continue to play a vital role as a Board member and co-founder, lending his insight and experience to guide our next chapter.
At the same time, we are delighted to announce that Zuzana Janíčková has been elected as our new Executive Co‑Director, joining Jozef Michal Mintal in leading the Institute.
Zuzana is a long‑time civic activist, volunteer, artist, and cultural manager whose leadership has strengthened communities across Slovakia. She brings a wealth of experience in grassroots organizing and humanitarian work, most recently coordinating aid for vulnerable communities impacted by the war in Ukraine. We are excited to see the passion and perspective she brings to the Institute as we expand our research, education, policy, and civic engagement efforts.
Please join us in thanking Robert for his extraordinary contributions and in welcoming Zuzana into her new role.
