The BRRIDGE research project was featured at the ERSA 2024 congress on Regional Science Dialogues for Peace and Sustainable Development, held at the University of Azores. The conference gathered 872 attendees and presenters from 61 countries in Europe and beyond, who came together to discuss critical regional science issues, focusing on peace and sustainable development. A total of 830 presentations were delivered during the conference, showcasing a wide array of research and policy discussions.
One of the keynote speeches was delivered by Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman, who shared his insights on economic challenges and opportunities in the context of regional development.
Kamila Borseková, representing the BRRIDGE research project, presented two BRRIDGE related papers:
Democracy in Crisis: Unveiling Slovak Perspectives and the Transformative Role of Voting Advice Applications
Presented in the session “Institutions, Political and Decisional Processes,” this paper examined the democratic crisis in Slovakia and the transformative potential of voting advice applications on public perceptions and democratic participation. The discussion highlighted the impact of political processes and institutional reforms on Central Europe’s democratic systems, contributing valuable insights to the BRRIDGE project’s broader research agenda.
Convergence of Regional Labour Markets in the European Union
Presented in the session “Regional and Urban Labour Markets and Entrepreneurship,” this paper addressed the convergence and disparities among labor markets across European regions. The presentation provided an in-depth analysis of regional labor market trends within the EU, emphasizing the factors driving convergence and the persistent differences across regions.
The participation in ERSA 2024 not only showcased the vital research conducted under the BRRIDGE project but also facilitated the dissemination of these findings to a broader international audience, furthering the project’s impact on regional science and policy.
