His groundbreaking work in computer systems and networks, recognized by multiple patents, helped shape the digital landscape. Often called one of the \u201cfathers of the Slovak internet,\u201d his contributions were instrumental in building the foundations of connectivity that so many rely on today.<br><br>A distinguished academic, Karol\u2019s career spanned institutions such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/cvutpraha\/\">Czech Technical University in Prague<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/eindhoven-university-of-technology\/\">Eindhoven University of Technology<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/eth-zurich\/\">ETH Z\u00fcrich<\/a> before he played a key role in advancing computing research at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/akademiavied\/\">Slovensk\u00e1 akad\u00e9mia vied \/ Slovak Academy of Sciences<\/a>. His pioneering work on distributed systems and networking laid the groundwork for Slovakia\u2019s internet transformation.<br><br>Beyond academia, Karol brought his expertise to industry, leading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/ibm\/\">IBM<\/a> Industry in Slovakia for two decades and bridging the worlds of research and applied innovation. His leadership at the Data&amp;Society Lab at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/univerzita-mateja-bela-v-banskej-bystrici\/\">Univerzita Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici<\/a> helped establish our mission: exploring the evolving relationship between technology and society with rigor and impact.<br><br>We will deeply miss his wisdom, generosity, and relentless curiosity.
